Product Information
MXL V69 Studio Microphone
The MXL V69 studio microphone comes supplied in a very nice soft case with PSU, multicore cable, three-pin XLR mic cable, and shockmount cradle, and is a cardioid-pattern microphone. This itself is unusual because instead of the commonly found presence peak, it has a flat characteristic with just a very gentle high-end lift coming in at around 2kHz, becoming steeper above 10kHz.
The build quality of the V69 is sturdy but as is the case with all studio microphones - needs to be gently handled to retain a consistently good performance, the microphone is cylindrical in shape, with an attractive gold-plated basket protecting the one-inch capsule. Beneath the body sleeve of this microphone sits a neatly made circuit board containing a miniature wire-ended valve feeding transformerless, solid-state pre-amp/balancing electronics.
A seven-pin XLR cable connects the mic to the Power Supply Unit (PSU), which converts the signal to a regular three-pin, balanced XLR feed and there are no pad or roll-off switches anywhere on the mic or the PSU. The shock mount cradle provided is thoughtfully designed and utilises a spring clamp mechanism to hold the mic secure. MXL recommended that the mic be used upside down, so that heat rising from the tube doesn't affect the capsule, which is why a firm clamp system is essential.
MXL have stealthily crept into the market and are now slowly beginning to gain some real credibility for their microphone range, Nevada Music stocks several models - all of which are very affordable, do yourself a favour and check out this excellent new range of studio microphones at the Nevada Music warehouse ...
