Product Information
Novation Ultranova Analogue Modeling Synthesizer
Over the past 5 years several major high-tech manufacturers have released small footprint synthesizers (by small-footprint I mean with the least amount of necessary keys) which have included a host of rotary knobs switches and alpha wheels as a kind of nod in the direction of the old style analogue synthesizers when everything was manually controlled by the user. Presumably this is a move away from pre-set sounds and provides the opportunity for the creative keyboard wizzard to conjure up some unique, custom designed sound textures ...
That trend continues here with the Novation Ultranova Analogue Modeling Synthesizer, Novation have come from virtrually nowhere to become one of the most respected brands of controller keyboards on the market and have devised the right blend of quality, features and affordability. The Novation Ultranova is a mono-timbral synth (again harking back to oldies but goodies such as the Mini-Moog) but with a new synthesizer engine based around the successfull Novation SuperNova II technology from a few years back. It can provide up to 18 dynamically allocated mono-timbral voices, and there's 300 patches to amuse yourself with alongside 5 effects slots per patch that include Distortion, Compressor, Chorus/Phase, Delay and Reverb ...
The technology used within the Novation Ultanova is based around 36 types of WaveTable synthesis linked to 14 types of filter along with 6 x Envelope Generators and 3 x LFO's. The neat thing about the Novatoion Ultranova (well actually there are several neat things ...) is that the encoders located on the control surface area of this synth are in fact touch sensitive. This means athat when you start touching the rotary knobs you can trigger a varietry of effects, envelopes, LFO's and filters as you turn the encoder in real-time ... Smart eh ...?
The keyboard on the Ultranova has 37 after-touch sensitive keys which is plentiful for gigs and creative playing, plus of course there's a 12-band Vocoder with an on-board goose-neck microphone for those of you who feel inspired by robotic voices ála Herby Hancock. Novation have also provided both a software plug-in editor and a patch librarian for the Ultranova which allows detailed editing of sounds from a PC or Mac and also the ability to organise, store, and share an unlimited amount of sound patches.
And speaking of computer connectivity, the Novation Ultranova includes a 2 in-4-out USB audio inteface for use with a computer which means that the Ultranova can be used to stream audio to and from your host computer. There are a multitude of connectivity inputs and outputs on the Novation Ultranova that include the main stereo analogue outputs, a digital SP/DIF output along with auxilliary outputs and a full compliment of MIDI IN/OUT/THRU Ports ...
