Upon opening the Korg X50 I was immediately impressed with the simplistic look that Korg have gone for on this model, harbouring a lightweight feel and keeping buttons to a minimum. Although this may be at a disadvantage for those old analogue style enthusiasts, it does serve well the subtractive synthesist who wishes to take their sounds on the road or for an owner of a small project studio looking to broaden their soundscope without damaging the bank balance.

The presets and sound combinations that accompany the X50 enable the impatient amongst you to dive straight in and test out its functionality. After powering up I scrolled down to the 'Vintagepad' combination and instantly found myself playing a whole arrangement which resembled the likes of 'Massive Attack'. This is a lot of fun on its own and there are some very authentic sounding combination presets to choose from...

For the more advanced user it is fairly simple to start creating your own patches thanks to the software included whilst the routing facilities are a bonus, - the Korg X-50 being the first of its kind to have 2 additional inidividual outputs so you can send different elements of your sound to wherever you require.

Overall the Korg X50 is a great synth for the money maintaining an affordable price tag whilst retaining versatility and flexibility. Come down to the Nevada Music Warehouse store for a demo or to check it out for yourself!
