Korg Kaossilator Dynamic Phrase Synthesiser
Every once in a while a musical Gizmo comes along that captures the imagination of musicians and non-musicians alike and becomes the catalyst for an epidemic of musical creativity from something that doesn't really resemble a musical instrument at all ... enter the Korg Kaoss-ilator ...
This is a dinky little box with a touch sensitive plastic pad on the front and holds a number of sensors that react in different ways when the finger is pressed, tapped or dragged over the touch pad. Only a little larger than an iPod, the Kaossilator has a number (100 to be exact) of programs that feature sampled drum sounds, musical and rhythmical loops, synthesizer sounds (single notes and chords) and single and multi-faceted sound effects ....
By moving the fingers over the touch pad the sounds react in differing ways that include altering the pitch of the notes (by up to 2 ocatves) triggering a drum rhythm or a musical loop. This clever device also contains an arpeggiator plus the loops and samples can be chained to gether to create a complete musical composition.
The portable, travel-friendly Kaossilator runs on batteries or a 4.5v adapter. Use this device as a multi-instrumental musical instrument, sample source, live rig addition, or just a fun way to get your groove on!
Reviews
Here's yet another groovy gizmo from those clever guys at Korg ... A pocket sized synth & drum module that allows bags of creativity ... All of the sounds on the Kaossilator have a contemporary element to them and are reproduced as high quality, high fidelity samples.
In many ways this product will appeal to non musicians as theoretically, no musical ability is needed to make a composition on this device. A positive bi-product of this is that it may help non-musicians to understand the nuts and bolts of composition, song arranging and perhaps also how to build a rhythm track ...
For musicians you're either going to love or hate it - depending on your take on how creative this device can be, for some though it may be a handy addition to an established recording or live rig and will enable spontaneous virtuosity. There are of course the other group of users who will simply look upon this as an amusing toy and a pleasant way to pass an hour or two ...
One thing is for sure though, Korg have developed the Kaossilator to cover a wide range of tastes and user bases and it will therefore appeal to a large percentage of the general public. Check out the link above to see this nifty device demonstrated so that you can realise the potential of the Korg Kaossilator ... Available now from the Nevada Music Warehouse ...
