Designed by the same team that produced the best-selling Mackie
SRM450v2, the Mackie Thump TH-15A is a classy PA speaker with a
solid low-end and ample power in a lightweight design that is easily
transportable. Class-D Fast Recovery amplification provides 400-watts
of bi-amped power that is split between the high-frequency compression
driver and 15" bass woofer.
Additionally, Mackie have included their Active processor, which
comprises a precision crossover giving driver time-alignment so that
each of the lower and upper frequencies arrive perfectly
synchronised at audience level. Mackie's TH-15A features a
user-adjustable 3-band EQ for tone control and manual adjustment and it
can be pole-mounted or used as a foldback wedge.
The two-way ported cabinet design generates ample quantities of bass
whilst its 1" compression driver ensures smooth, wide dispersion of top
end clarity. Mackie have also provided a 3-band equaliser at the input
stage with an available 15dB boost or cut at 80Hz (low shelf), 100Hz to
8kHz (sweepable mids) and 12kHz (high shelf). This allows the user to
dial in that certain "sweetspot" that can add presence and click to a
kick drum, bring out the sizzle in the hi-hats, or correct
acoustic irregularities at the venue.
I guess many of you will be asking ... Why buy Mackie over other
branded PA systems - PA - and sound on the whole is a subjective topic
and to a degree depends on your budget as generally ... you get what you
pay for .. However, Mackie is designed and built in the US to very
exacting standards using quality components and raw materials, so as
well as lasting the rigours of on-the -road transportation, Mackie PA
systems tend to sound "musical" - almost as though the cabinets have
been tuned like studio monitors. In truth, there's only one way to find
out for yourself ... and that's to come on down and have a listen ...
