Product Information

Allen and Heath ZED24 live/studio mixer

The ZED 24 is a well constructed, robust mixing desk that is equally at home in a studio or live environment, comprising 16 monophonic inputs, 8 stereo inputs and a flexibility and adaptibility that does not compromise on quality. The 20 channels have a varied and diverse range of facilities that include 3 band EQ with a speepable mid range frequencies.

Four auxilliary sends are provided, of which 1&2 are pre-fade for foldback monitoring, and 3 & 4 post-fade for effects sends. A stereo signal can be sent from auxes via USB to a PC or Mac to create 2 separate record feeds independent of the main LR mix (1&2) and or used as FX sends (3&4).

A USB interface provides connectivity to various forms of music production software hosted on either PC or Mac, there's also a stereo return facility for external signal processing plus stereo outputs for record out. The whole audio visual experience is managed via 12 bar stereo LED read out metering and there's stereo imaging on every channel ...

It never ceases to amaze me how manufacturers can cram so many facilities into a product such as the ZED 24 for such a relatively small amount of money ... It's not that long ago that a mixer such as this would have cost several thousand pounds and yet here it is for approximately the price of a couple of airline tickets to Florida ...

Even more amazing than that is the fact that as the price has gone down the quality of the product has gone up ... The ZED 24 has many Pro-audio facilities despite its price, and now that it has USB connectivity on-board it opens up a whole new stream of possibilities for external signal processing and digital audio editing.

The EQ is top quality and very "musical" to my ears, I found the lay-out intuitive and certainly not taxing on the grey matter, whilst for most project studios and live work the amount of auxilliary connections should be adequate. The build quality should ensure that the ZED 24 will perform perfectly well on the road although I would still recommend flight-casing the mixer and treating it with respect when handling ... otherwise this product should give you years of faithful service ...
