Product Information

On the Boss stand at the 2009 Winter NAMM show, there was the impressive sight of an entire wall of new Boss TU-1000 tuners which gave a very futuristic "Starship Enterprise" vibe to the stand. The Boss TU-1000 floor standing tuner lights up like a veritable Christmas Tree, however there's method to this madness as the bright blue and red LED lights on the upper surface of the tuner make it incredibly easy to read the tuner's display, and therefore know at a glance if your instrument is in-tune ...

Once the tuner is activated the output of the instrument is immediately muted so that tuning can be carried out without sound, the actual tuning process uses a series of "streaming" LED lights. The motion of the lights provides an indication of how sharp or flat the string is, and a "Pitch" indicator illuminates once the desired tuning is acheived. Alternatively the TU-1000 can be used in "Cent" mode where the LED's act as a needle-type meter where a central position marker denotes that the string has reached the correct pitch.

I suspect that most musicians using the TU-1000 will place it in front or adjacent to their existing pedal board configuration and the intensive LED's ensure that the tuner can be read even on the darkest of stages. There are an abundance of connectivity options on the rear panel that include an OUTPUT jack is for connecting to an effects processor, guitar amp, or other such device. There's also a PARALLEL OUT jack which allows the user to split the signal from the input jack and send it to a connected effects processor or guitar amp. Additionally the TUNER ON/OFF provides connectivity for an external footswitch (FS-5U sold separately) for powering the tuner on and off remotely.

The tuner is automatically switched on once a jack is inserted and likewise will switch itself off when the jack is removed, for those guitarists who drop-tune, the TU-1000 offers a special "Flat Tuning" mode, which lowers the pitch one or more semitones below the note shown in the display. The display changes according to your choice, from "lowered one semitone" down to "lowered six semitones".
