Gretsch G5120 Guitar Hollow Orange c/w Humbuckers
The G5120 screams old fashioned American rock and roll, and is a really stylish instrument featuring the Bigsby tremolo and F-holed body. The retro theme is continued in the tone of this guitar with the Dual Coil Humbucking Pickups giving that rock and roll twang of yesteryear. Gretsch guitars are professional instruments made to a very high standard and over the past 40 years have been used by guitar legends such as George Harrison, Graham Nash and Mark Knopfler.
The hollow Laminated Maple body provides beautiful rich tones from this retro-styled instrument and the thumb nail fret markers on the edge of the Rosewood fretboard along with the large paddle headstock show evidence of its 1950's design. The chrome hardware on the Gretsch G5120 is immaculately done with chrome volume and tone rotary contols, chrome pick-up covers and a period correct Bigsby licensed B60 Tremolo tailpiece ...
The humbuckers provide authentic 1950's "twang" that crosses over many musical genres from country to rockabilly and sounds just as fresh today as it did back when this guitar was first released. The cosmetics of the G5120 leave the user in no doubt that Gretsch is an extremely well made guitar with subtle yet tasteful touches such as the transparent perspex flating scratch plate and the contrasting body edge binding. Reviews
For those of you who like the sounds of yesteryear and enjoy playing rock and roll as it should sound, then this is the guitar for you. The Gretsch G5120 will appeal to those amongst you who like to reminisce and go for the original authentic sounds of 1950's American style rock and roll. As retro styling and fashion becomes more hip and starts to appeal to a greater cross section of people don't be surprised to see plenty of Gretsch G5120 model guitars appearing in live venues ...
Like other guitars from that era, the designers got this one just right and the combination of the big semi-acoustic body along with the "f" sound holes give this instrument a truly vintage look and feel. Despite the age old design this guitar plays extremely well and provides some amazing tones from Beatlesque rhythms through Rockabilly and onto the sultry tones of Swing ... Granted you probably wouldn't want to play rock or metal on this guitar and if you did then you're kind of missing the point of this lovely instrument ...
What we have here is a beautifully crafted guitar that lends itself very well to specific types of music, admittedly it may not be as versatile as a Stratocaster but what it does, it does very well. I'm a big fan of Gretsch and particularly the G5120 and I think there's definately room for this style of guitar in the modern high tech guitar world, it may not appeal to spiky haired teenagers but there are plenty of musicians out there who will appreciate the beauty, tone and play-ability of this fine instrument.
