Gibson?s Flying V '68 is one of the most recognisable and iconic guitars in the industry. Designed by Ted McCarty in the late 1950s it shocked the guitar buying public. Guitars were supposed to be round curvy affairs but McCarty was experimenting with straight and angular lines.
Back then it?s fair to say that it was ahead of its time and sales were disappointingly low. That?s all changed now, the flying V is one of Gibson?s most sought after models
The USA made Flying V '68 has a solid Mahogany body and neck, Rosewood fingerboard, Pearloid dot position markers, tune-o-matic bridge with stop bar tailpiece whilst Gibson hum buckers completes the layout with a 496R in the neck position and a 500T at the bridge, both selected via the three way toggle switch. This instrument is also supplied with a Gibson branded hard case.
Reviews
Gibson’s Flying V’68 is an out and out rock guitar right? Well actually it’ll cover a lot more ground than that but with its undeniable rock attitude and a host of legendary rock players led by Michael Schenker the Flying V has found its niche.
You’d be forgiven for thinking that the shape would make for an awkward guitar to play. In fact thanks to a rubber grip strip the guitar stays put when seated, when standing the guitar is light, comfortable to wear and balances well. Gibson’s tried and tested 496R and 500T pickups give a powerful focused sound that cuts through the mix and offers fantastic sustain ...
The neck profile is a hybrid V-Factor X (a cross between a 50's and a 60's neck profile) that cups in the hand just right and with Gibson’s large frets this makes for a fast, bend friendly playing experience. As mentioned earlier Gibson has been making this model since way back. An original fifties model will set you back approximately the price of a two bed semi detached house!! Offered today at a tad more affordable price ... so what are you waiting for ? Visit the Nevada Music Warehouse to view this iconic instrument ...
