The Les Paul Special was introduced over the past few years as an entry level model that would enable novices, beginners and those on a restricted budget to benefit from being able to afford to play the iconic Les Paul model of guitar. This particular model is the left hand configuration of the Les Paul Special II and is finished in Vintage Sunburst ?
The compromise that differentiates it from the original is that the Special II as it is now called, has a slightly thinner body and is minus the arched Maple top that gives the Les Paul is front face curvature. However aside from this the Special II uses many of the features from the original design and is a good introduction to the Les Paul range.
The body is a combination of Alder and Maple with a Mahogany neck and a Rosewood fret board housing 22 frets with dot position markers for orientation. This instrument features two open-coil hum-bucking pick-ups that are managed via a single volume and additional tone control along with a 3 way toggle switch that selects and activates each one.
The bridge is the now familiar tune-o-matic style complete with the stop bar tail piece and along with the machine heads is finished in chrome. The jack input is located on the underside of the body with the strap buttons at the base and on the shoulder of the instrument.
Reviews
Otherwise the Epiphone Les Paul Special II received many accolades from my colleague who secretly wished that this quality of guitar was available when he began all those years ago. I commented that it would have been little use to him as he would still have to wait for the invention of electricity …?
One to check out for all budding left-handed rock gods to be …..
