Ibanez Jemini Steve Vai Signature Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal
The latest Steve Vai endorsed Ibanez 'must-have' was small in size but hard to miss at the Ibanez NAMM booth in Anaheim earlier this year. The psychedelic coloured die-cast zinc case of the new Steve Vai signature distortion pedal makes sure it will stand out - even on the most crowded pedal board.
"However, some players may need less pedals in their rigs if they have a JEMINI," said Lucian Tu of Ibanez (Well he would say that wouldn't he ...!). "The JEMINI is beyond versatile, with both TS9 Tubescreamer overdrive as well as the classic distortion tones long associated with Steve Vai. So you can achieve anything from just a subtle bit of overdrive boost to completely full-blown, all-out distorted tones." So there you go .... straight from the horses mouth ...
"Both the distortion section and TS9 overdrive are all carefully Steve Vai-tweaked and modified, the result of information gleaned from extensive touring with proto-types and constant consultation between Steve and our designers during that time."
So apparently Steve Vai has had a significant input into the development of this baby, the JEMINI's unique multicolor casing features on-off LED lights that surround the control knobs for exceptional visibility as well as a Vai symbol on the footpedals.

Reviews
So here's the Ibanez signature pedal from rock god Steve Vai, produced in close collaboration with Steve and the boffins at Ibanez, and finely honed during months of touring with various proto-types. Essentially you're getting two distortion pedals here ... one styled to sound like the Ibanez Tube Screamer and the other one a classic distortion model ...
Distortion is such a subjective and emotional subject and whether you like a particular style of distortion depends on a number of factors that may include the style of guitar you play, the type of pick-ups, the style of music that you or your band play etc, etc. For me pesonally one thing is undesputable, as a musician of some 32 years I have yet to hear a pedal that can create the same harmonic distortion as a Marshall Amp that has all the knobs turned up to number 11.
That's not to say the the Ibanez Jemini is bad - just don't expect HyperDrive distortion sounds from it and you won't be dissapointed. The good points of this pedal are the sheer range of distortion sounds that it can produce - these go from soft crunch through to raw-edged gain and all the way up to Psycho Nutter Metal Mayhem ... and there's bound to be a setting somewhere on this pedal that will fit your requirement ...
The Ibanez Jemini Steve Vai Signature pedal is a great tool to have in your rock 'n' roll kit bag - just don't rely on it as your sole source of distortion -despite what the manufacturers may say ... Oh, and by the way ... it won't make you play like Steve Vai either ... beleive me I've tried ...
