Boss PS-6 Harmonist Pedal WITH FREE 10ft GUITAR LEAD WORTH £9.99
There are several intelligent harmoniser pedals on the market and this now includes the PS-6 Harmonist pedal from Boss, effectively this is 4 different types of Pitch/Harmony effects within a single compact Boss pedal. The pedal itself is the usual Boss format and the cast iron chassis is finished in an attractive metallic blue, it has the usual Boss style latched activation with the lower section of the pedal having a spring loaded resistance so that the user can feel a definitive "click" when the pedal effect is activated ...
The controls on the front facia read (from left to right) Balance, Shift, Key & Mode ... The Balance controls the amount of effect between the clean unaffected signal and as you turn the rotary dial clockwise this adds more of the effected signal and allows you to create your own effect balance level. The next parameter is Shift - which allows you to choose how many harmony parts you'd like to add to your direct signal - 2 or 3 ... ?
The next control setting is "Key" and obviously in order to create musical harmony the user will need to tell the PS-6 what key the song is in so that it can intelligently create the harmony within the notes/scales of that particular key. The final rotary controller is entitled "MODE" and this allows the user to select a particular type of effect - the choices are Pitch Shifter, De-Tune or S-Bend. The Pitch Shifter is fairly self explanatory and is used amongst other things to provide octave effects, the de-tune setting is in fact a stereo de-tune that (when routed in stereo) tunes one side slightly sharp and the other side slightly flat and is one of the widest and classiest chorus effects that I have heard in a long time ...
S-Bend is a "whammy bar" style effect that bends notes or chords "Portamento style" upwards or downwards controlled by the user stomping on the pedal and can provide up to 4 Octaves of extreme pitch bending - this effect can also be controlled by connecting the Boss EV-5 or EV-7 expression pedal -both of which have a more controlled sweep due to the increased travel of the foot pedal. At the foot of the rotary "MODE" controller are two settings labelled "Major/Minor" which are used in conjunction with the Harmony controller to tell the device if a particular key setting is in a major or minor key.
As usual the Boss PS-6 can be powered by a 9v Battery or by purchasing the optional Power Supply Unit. In days of old Harmony effects pedals sounded very synthetic as old technology struggled to emulate the sampled sound of a guitar note. I can confidently say that the Boss PS-6 accurately reproduces the actual sound of your guitar, and that the harmonies sound full and natural even when re-creating note bends, at this price the PS-6 is gonna be a big seller for Boss ...
