Blackstar Amps have been building a steady reputation since their launch a few years back, something that's also been catching the eyes of many guitarists (or should that be ears ... ?) is the Blackstar range of high quality guitar effects pedals such as the Blackstar HT-Reverb shown here .... It is housed in a stylish chassis with a contemporary silver/chrome design and clearly laid out control parameters, the pedal incorporates valve technology so that valve compression and harmonics are added to the warmth of the overall guitar sound ... There are 8 types of reverb on offer here including hall, plate, spring, gate and reverse reverbs to choose from, the pedal is laid out with 5 circular rotary control knobs located at the top of the chassis, these are marked as follows (left to right) Effect, Time, Tone, Dwell and Level. Blackstar's unique switching circuitry allows the user to switch manually from long to short reverb time whilst still playing using completely silent switching. The reverb signal is in true stereo and there's also a bypass option whilst the "Dwell" control provides the addition of the aforementioned valve compression and harmonics. The HT-Reverb comes supplied with an A/C adapter and at the foot of the pedal surface are two "stomp" switches, one of which is the on/off switch whilst the other switches from long to short delay ...

Reviews
Reverb is one of those effects that in days of old used to be a regular inclusion on many amplifiers - particularly the spring reverb type, and I can remember from my youth on the Northern club circuit plenty of guitar players turning the reverb on their amplifiers up to full whilst performing "Albertross" by Fleetwood Mac. These days reverb is a much more sophisticated effect thanks to the invention of digital and convelution reverb algorhythms .... Nevertheless if used tastefully, reverb can still add tension and atmosphere to a guitar sound so it was with great enthusiasm that I sat down to explore the latest pedal in the Blackstar series, namely the Blackstar HT - Reverb Guitar Effects pedal. This pedal supplies eight differing types of reverb including the old fashioned spring reverb for the traditionalists out there. As I flicked through the various reverb pre-sets it became immediately apparent how much technology has changed reverb over the last 20 years. Both the sound and the quality of the effect has improved dramatically and it was encouraging to hear top end sparkle and rich depth in the reverbs available on this pedal. My favourite setting was the Hall effect but there were many useable options in the Plate and Room pre-sets too although I must admit that apart from creating wacky effects I struggled to find practical uses on the Gated and Reverse reverbs, but that's not to say that someone with a more creative mind-set than me couldn't cook-up spmething special. For me personally, Reverb is an effect to be used sparingly - when it is added tastefully and in just the right amount it can be a powerfull addition to create just the right amount of atmosphere in a song. It's one of those less is more .... moments for me, but to be frank if you're the type of guitarist who likes to occasionally soften the sound by adding reverb then the Blackstar HT-Reverb Effects pedal is absolutely worth checking out ...
