Ukuleles are currently enjoying renewed popularity and many schoolchildren are presently learning the Ukulele thanks to its small body and neck which perfectly suits smaller fingers and hands and are no longer seen as musical toys. The Ukulele was originally built by Portuguese immigrants to the Hawaiian Islands in the 1880s, the small guitar-like instruments produced a lilting sound that instantly evoked the lush South Pacific atmosphere of their island homeland.

One thing is for certain with this instrument - the Fender Ukulele Pa'ina is not a toy, this instrument wants to be taken seriously and straight out of the box the Fender Ukulele Pa'ina looks the business ... The rich Mahogany wood and contemporary styling blend just the right amount of classic and modern design to make this Ukulele a much sought after instrument ...
Sound-wise the Fender Ukulele Pa'ina doesn't dissapoint either, the Mahogany body adds a certain depth and richness to the tone but doesn't colour the classic Ukulele sound. This is quite obviously an upmarket Ukulele, the raw materials, build quality and cosmetic finish more than justify the price tag and Fender have included some nice touches including a compensated saddle, Fender Telecaster style headstock and inlaid dot fretmarkers ... There's even a decorative sound-hole rosette ...
Ukulele's have had a bit of a renaissance recently and are now considered to be quite a trendy intrument - particularly those that look as good as the Fender Ukulele Pa'ina ... I would have to acknowledge that this is probably financially out of reach of most novices who wish to start learning the Ukulele, and is probably more suited to the established Ukulele player. But whilst the price tag is perhaps more than you'd normally expect for a common or garden Ukulele, this is a very fine instrument and has some luxurious characteristics and for me justifies the cost.
