Yamaha THR10 Guitar Amp
The Yamaha THR 10 amp is not your average guitar amp... Firstly, it kind of looks like a guitar amp head, yet within are two 8cm speakers. Like the smaller THR5 the THR10 has managed to blend simplicity with intuition so that as you move between the rotary control knobs the configuration of what to twiddle and by how much seems to naturally fall into place ...
The amp has some very clever tricks up its sleeve, the build quality, sounds and effects are extremely good - to my ears at least - the stereo sound from the in-built speakers is ultra-wide and the quality is approaching "hi-fi" standard. The THR amp takes modeling technology a step further using VCM which is Yamaha's Virtual Component Modeling technology, the concept is that as you increase the volume of the THR 10, the tone changes accordingly - just as it would on a real amp ... So by raising the volume the modeling algorhythm in the Yamaha THR10 brings in more bass and the sound starts to break into a crunch guitar tone - which is just how the valves would react if you were to do this on a real amp ... The THR10 also includes sounds for acoustic as well as bass guitar while the smaller Yamaha THR5 unit just provides electric guitar sounds.
The THR 10 will undoubtedly be a great practice buddy and it has a selection of interfaces that can connect it to an audio source (MP3, iPod etc) so that you can play along to your favourite guitar tunes 'til your heart's content ... The THR also has a USB 2.0 interface and so can connect to a PC or Mac and has the ability to output 2 stereo outputs (so 4 mono channels of audio signal) to your computer with 1 stereo pair affected and one stereo pair carrying the clean audio signal.
So there you have it, the THR10 amp is a great sounding amp box of tricks that has built-in speakers plus a tuner (don't think I mentioned it has this ...) If I haven't done enough to impress you then I'd recommend that you spend 10 minutes watching the THR video just below the main image on this page as it talks you through the basic concept along with demonstrating some of the bells and whistles that are available on this very impressive Yamaha amp.
