Here's a product that will undoubtedly please the street buskers amongst you - the Roland Cube Street battery powered amplifier. At 2.5 Watts RMS output, it's not going to make your audience's ears bleed, but it will deliver a range of 8 different amp sounds. A secondary 2.5 Watt channel allows you to plug-in a microphone and add either Reverb or Delay so that you can sing along to your own accompaniment.
The Roland Cube Street is in fact a stereo amplifier built in to a chassis containing two high-performance 6.5" Neodymium speakers, and two 2.5 Watt input channels - 1 for an instrument, and one for a microphone. It's powered by a 9V mains adapter (included) or by up to 6 AA batteries - and if all 6 are used, Roland reckon you'll get 15 hours continuous use from them.
Another neat feature is the inclusion of a chromatic tuner to help you to keep your instrument in tune... plus the cabinet has a slanted front, a little like a monitor chassis, to help to achieve greater sound dispersion. This small and compact unit weighs a mere 5.2Kg with dimensions of 415 (W) x 295 (D) x 250 mm (H), and is available in Classic Black or Fire Engine Red.
Reviews
Undoubtedly this is squarely aimed at the busker and outdoor market and I have to say with that in mind this is a very well thought out little unit providing a decent if not exceptional guitar sound, and a clear and concise vocal sound.
The tuner is probably a god send for all guitarists and the choice of several amp models will help to re-create songs as they were played originally. Add to this a useful addition of Delay and Reverb for processing the voice and you?ve got yourself a good little product here.
It?s nice to see decent quality speakers using Neodymium drivers and if Roland?s claims are true about the six AA batteries giving 15 hours continuous use then that should normally be ample for even the most enthusiastic busker.
Just remember to equip yourself with some good quality re-chargeable batteries (The Nevada Radio department has a good selection) otherwise some of your hard earned cash will be spent buying truckloads of replacements.
I guess other than in a busking situation you could always use this amp as your ?on the go ?? or backstage warm-up tool. It?s small enough to take with you to exotic holiday locations for those sunset moments when you feel inspired to write an Opus D Jazz Odyssey ?
All in all the Cube Street is a good product that has been well designed and thought out ? check it out at the Nevada Music Warehouse.
