Marshall Amplification has an iconic standing in the evolution of rock music, first introduced back in the mid 1960?s Jim Marshall created a product that has become synonymous with some of the greatest guitarists that have ever walked the planet including the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Bill Nelson and Ritchie Blackmore. With the Marshall Vintage Modern range, Marshall have endeavoured to capture the vintage sound of Marshall Amplification in the late 60's and early 70's and combine it with today's modern technology to provide a high quality yet user friendly amp with that classic Marshall rock sound.
The Marshall 2266H 50-watt amplifier head is an all-valve single channel amplifier with a choice of 2 "dynamic ranges" selectable by a footswitch. The Low range equates to the performance you would come to expect from a stock vintage Marshall amplifier in terms of tone and available gain. The High range adds an extra preamp valve into the signal path, creating those classic hard rock tones of the seventies. Two "frequency selective" pre-amp volumes (gains), "Body" and "Detail" assist greater flexibility of tonal shaping for individual guitars and styles whilst the power amplifier is specifically based on the first Marshall amplifiers to be produced, with 4 x KT66 output valves creating the classic Marshall tone. A Mid Boost switch on the front panel of the Marshall 2266H enhances the tone even more while a traditional Marshall tone control circuit enables fine tuning. Vintage and Modern used together to describe an amplifier is surely a contradiction of terms, however the good people at Marshall have managed to combine both elements within the 2266H Vintage Modern amp head.
The Vintage Modern 2266H amp has classic Marshall tone with the added advantage that the boffins have enhanced the sound and tone options by adding the frequency selective pre-amp volumes so that you can accurately tweak and fine tune the frequencies to arrive exactly at the point you’re seeking.
The original KT66 valves back in the early 70’s were hardy souls and could take being thrown in and out of transit vans in their stride so it's good to see them form part of the specification on this model. The “Mid-boost switch takes the distortion sound up a notch or two and manages to eek a tad more sustain out of the amp. If you’re a
