Takamine G220S Solid Top Acoustic Guitar
Takamine is a prestigious brand name. Unlike other manufacturers e.g. Gibson, its budget instruments still carry the Takamine name. That’s a definite plus in my book.
The Takamine G220’s has a solid Spruce top with bound Mahogany back and sides. No neck timber is specified but it looks like Nato with a Rosewood fret board carrying white dot inlays. The classic Takamine back angled headstock is home to 3-a-side enclosed machine heads. Body decoration is kept simple with a plain but attractive sound hole rosette, a black scratch plate and a rosewood bridge with compensated saddle and white bridge pins.
The set up straight from the box is very good. That’s an important factor for what is essentially a beginners instrument. The NEX body shape is basically a down sized Jumbo which translates into a lighter sound with less bass. That doesn’t mean this guitar sounds bad, quite the opposite, for the asking price the performance is excellent and the reduced body size translates into a more comfortable playing experience. For a guitar with Takamines name on the headstock, a solid Spruce top and very tidy build quality budding guitarists young and old have never had it so good...
