JBL Guides

JBL

JBL first appeared in 1927 when its founder James Bullough Lansing realised that the demand for bigger and better loudspeakers, as a result of the rise of the 'talking picture', was going to generate big business. He registered the Lansing Manufacturing Company in California. Initially, it was a small company, the family hand-wiring speaker coils in the evening in preparation for assembly the following day.

The next decade provided a number of innovations such as two and three way speaker systems to effectively handle the wider audio spectrum and higher output power the movie industry was developing.

In 1955 they made first contact with the music industry. Leo Fender incorporated the model D-130 into his famous guitar amplifiers. From then onwards, JBL has become world renowned for its speakers and systems which provide sound at music concerts, movie theatres, home cinemas, in car entertainment and much more.

JBL Differentiators

Although the main focus of JBL is on cinema sound systems, particularly the huge demand for the multi channel THX systems currently used, JBL, since the early sixties, has been associated with sound reinforcement, or PA (Public Address) as most people like to call it. In 1995 they brought PA to a level where every musician could afford it with the introduction of its EON range. These were lightweight polycarbonate cabinets fitted with a bass/mid range driver and a horn tweeter. Following on from this successful product, they introduced the EON range with built in amplifiers, making each speaker self-contained. They were light, portable and gave exceptional sound quality. Not a company to rest on its laurels, they manufactured a wide range of PA products at all price points such as the JRX 100 series and the MRX 500 series. For the professional touring band that want the ultimate sound system, there is the SRX 700 series. It’s rugged and reliable, built for a long life on the road and delivers that trademark JBL sound quality, night after night.

JBL Today

Ever conscious of changing times, JBL products have continued to evolve to meet today's increasingly diverse needs. The latest EON500 range of active and passive speaker systems have improved on what was already a great product. The new ergonomic design makes the EON500 series lighter, more powerful and compatible with many applications. I am sure that James B. Lansing when he first
started producing those small speakers back in 1927 could
never have imagined that, in the 21st century, the JBL
brand would have become a worldwide household name.
