PA System Wiring & Connection

Whatever system you decide on, it will have to be connected together. Most amplifiers have the speaker connections at the back. It is important to use the correct cables for connecting speakers - never use a signal lead. Most amplifiers these days use the twist and lock speakon connector. Always ensure that you match the amplifier to the speakers; if you use 100watt rated speakers with a 500 watt amplifier your speakers wont last long!

Connecting Microphones & Instruments

For the input side of the system, you will be connecting microphones and instruments into it, ensure that you use the right cables. The speakers should always be in front of any microphones to reduce the risk of feedback.

Sound Checking Your Setup

Before you switch on, make sure that all level controls are set to minimum. This will avoid the speakers being damaged by any feedback. Turn up the output level to around halfway then with your first channel, increase the input level slowly until you hear sound from the speakers. You can follow with the other inputs adjusting any tone controls to get the sound you want. You should always do a sound check to make sure that the sound balance on all the inputs is exactly how you want it.

Remember that when a venue fills up you will probably need to increase the volume on the main output.
