If you are going to get the best from your speakers it is important to have at least a basic understanding of the way sound
behaves in a room. Speakers have to be above the head height of the front row audience otherwise the people at the back of the
room will have a job to hear. In turn, this will also prevent those at the front of the room from being blasted directly by the
sound coming from the speakers.
In many cases the back wall of the room is going to be a large flat surface. It is therefore worth main sure that the speakers
are positioned at a slightly downwards angle so the sound emitted does not simply bounce back off the wall.
Sound Reflections
Wherever possible you should also consider similar reflections of sound from the ceiling and other walls as you want to keep your
sound crisp and clear and avoid the risk of feedback.
Often it is the walls nearest the speakers which cause most problems so to counter the effects, make sure you angle the speakers
in such a way that reflections bounce away from the stage. Rotating the speaker cabs inwards can be a useful improvement.
Foldback Systems
If you and your band play instrumental music you should position mid/high frequency speakers behind you without the need for a
recourse to a foldback system. If you need to add live vocals, speakers should be positioned in front of you, thus reducing
feedback problems.
