Once you have chosen your guitar it's really important to look after it properly. Performing simple maintenance on a regular
basis is all that is required to keep your new instrument in pristine condition.
Guitar Storage
Here are a few basic storage tips that you can follow to keep your guitar looking and performing its best.
- Always Store in the Case
- Keep Out of Direct Sunlight
- Store at a Comfortable Level of Humidity
- Never Expose to Extreme Temperatures
Preventative Maintenance
Once you have finished playing it is a good idea to immediately wipe the strings down with a dry, soft cloth. The natural oils
and perspiration from your fingers will, over time, cause the strings to sound 'dull'.
When cleaning the instrument you should only ever use polishes that are designed specifically for use on guitars. Commercial
polish can penetrate the finish and permanently damage the wood.
It is advisable to regularly check that all screws are securely in place. If necessary, simply tighten the nut that surrounds
the jack socket with some thin-nosed pliers, taking care not to scratch yourself in the process.
More specialist types of guitar maintenance should be performed by a technician so as not to cause any accidental damage.
