still one of the best - same day...
The Electric guitar is a surprisingly versatile and flexible instrument. Most musicians enjoy the intimacy of
strumming a guitar through an amplifier whether playing a melodic harmony or a heavy fast-paced riff, this
uncomplicated set-up never fails to provide a sense of satisfaction and inspiration. However, if you're looking
to expand the basic unadulterated sound of the instrument and explore new avenues, then the addition of effects
pedals provides a great solution.
Choosing the right Effects Pedal
There's a near inexhaustible treasure-trove of effects available for modern guitarists. With classic
favourites like the Wah pedal and so many other effects to distort and transform your guitar's sound, how do
you choose which one is right for you? And, perhaps more importantly, what do they all do?
Creating your Optimal Sound
Effects pedals - or as they are sometimes referred to 'Stomp Boxes' - have always been an essential part of
any serious musicians gig bag. On stage they are easily accessible and, as they are ordinarily extremely
well-built, can withstand the rigors of regular use.. Each one offers something slightly different for a
guitarist and it isn't uncommon for serious players to have a number of pedals to help morph the sound on
stage and during rehearsals.
Effects, whether used on their own, or as part of a collective of precisely configured devices, help to create
the unique sound achieved by musicians throughout the world. More advanced, and arguably more technically
knowledgeable guitarists, may use a multi-effects unit or an effects rack to optimise their instrument's
capabilities. These programmable effects allow the user to manipulate their sound in intricate detail, however
not every guitarist needs to have such a high level of complexity, and many are happy to use an effects unit's
factory programmed pre-set sounds. None the less the technology is available for those who wish to fine tune and
customise their effects and to thereby uniquely shape their sound.
Tough & Durable "Stomp" Boxes
"Stomp Box" has become the more fashionable term for single pedal effects devices. Whilst most guitarists
treat their equipment with a degree of care, effects pedals are one of the toughest pieces of kit in the
guitarist's armory, capable of withstanding even the most enthusiastic foot-stomping guitarist. Whilst they are
also used within a recording environment, it is on stage that the effects create the greatest impact. Able to
mimic, or at the very least attempt to recreate the sound of studio quality recording, effects pedals give
guitarists the opportunity to enhance their sound whilst counteracting some of the limitations of public venues -
most notably troublesome acoustics.
So whether you want to create the resonant "swoosh" of a Flanger or add extra depth to your sound by adding
reverberation or delay, there really are plenty of options to choose from. Nevada offers a comprehensive
selection of effects pedals for all guitar types, whether electric, acoustic or bass, so make sure you have a
good look through our range to find that missing part of your musical jigsaw.
It may also be worth considering a visit to our Portsmouth store to give the various models a test-run and
find the right combination of pedals for you. Likewise our series of Buyer's Guides, individual Product Guides
and knowledgeable staff are all available for a quick reference if you do have any queries.
