Product Information

Traben NEO Ltd 4 String Bass Guitar Spalted Maple

The Traben Neo Limited Edition 4 string bass is constructed from a body of Spalted Maple and a neck of natural Maple with two thin layers of a dark wood running through it. Spalting is a process where the wood is discoloured by fungus, which might sound awful but it looks fantastic.

The neck is bolted on using an array of three bolts in a row and a single one beneath which is quite unusual but nonetheless seems very solid. The face of the guitar is dominated by an oval shaped chrome scratch plate, matching the chrome Grover machine heads in a two up/two down format at the other end of the guitar.

The Traben Neo Limited Edition utilises a Rosewood 34? scale fret board containing 24 frets and sporting Abalone fret markers. Sustain is greatly helped by a brass nut which has had the chrome treatment to match the other accessories. Traben's T3 active pre-amp circuitry is fed by two matt black SB-combo humbucking pick-ups that the manufacturer describes as soapbar style. They have also provided a generous three band EQ for this model along with a volume and a blend control that handles the mix of output between each of the two pick-ups.

The Traben Neo Limited Edition exhibits the unique Traben shape with both horns pointing downwards and a point crafted into the bottom of the body, so watch out that this doesn’t cause it to topple if you stand it up against something! The finish on the Spalted Maple gives dark grain lines and an amber colour to the wood, in contrast to the much whiter colouration of the natural maple neck. The finish looks terrific and the limited edition feel is topped off with a chrome “Traben” logo running along the headstock.

The stings are rear-loaded through body into the tail-piece which is mounted on the scratch plate with the pick-ups. The chrome finished brass nut really improves the natural sustain of the instrument, in fact all fittings from the strap buttons to control knobs are all chromed silver, and blend together nicely. The cutaways give excellent access to all 24 frets and the subtly bevelled body means it’s very comfortable to play. The three-band EQ provides all the range you could ask for, and is intuitive to learn.

This guitar has a massive tonal range. The treble end being excellent for slap/funk, with a punchy middle and very warm deep bass end if required. A great looking and sounding guitar like this is just asking to be road-tested, so try it out at the Nevada Music Warehouse today …
