Sennheiser Freeport Handheld Microphone UHF Radio System
It's not hard to find cheap wireless systems nowadays, but not many of the budget systems out there boast the same sound and build quality, not to mention the prestigious brand name that the Sennheiser Freeport Wireless Radio Systems offer. The Freeport is available in 3 versions: Handheld Vocal, Beltpack Instrument or Lavalier Clip Microphone.
This system is the the Sennheiser Freeport Handheld Microphone system which comes complete with the Sennheiser SK3 microphone, a well constructed dynamic cardioid mic with a fixed capsule. The mic is powered from a 9v battery which fits neatly into the handle. The system also includes a Sennheiser EM1 reciever, power supply and a microphone clip.
This full-diversity UHF system offers 4 switchable frequencies within the range 863-865MHz (licence-free in the UK), allowing you to quickly and easily change frequencies when using multiple system setups, or to avoid interference from another nearby system. The EM1 receiver unit is well constructed in a small metal case, about half-rack size. It features two swivel antennae, and LED indicators for power, channel activity, audio peaking and RF (radio frequency) level. The rear panel houses balanced XLR and unbalanced jack outputs as well as gain and squelch controls and the DC power connector. Unusual on a system in this price range is it's full-diversity design. This means that it incorporates two independent receiver paths, one connected to each antenna. The receiver will automatically switch to the one providing the strongest signal, thereby reducing the risk of system drop-outs and loss of signal continuity.
On a whole, the Sennheiser Freeport Handheld Microphone is a very well constructed system which delivers sound quality that out performs it's budget price tag by far. For this kind of money, you won't find a better radio system.
Reviews
When trying out the Sennheiser Freeport handheld radio mic, I was literally blown away by it's performance considering how little it actually costs! The sound quality is very good, with low handling noise and a great representation of my (sadly rather poor) vocal characteristics.
Thanks to the true diversity reciever I experienced no drop out whatsoever and with a decent battery the Sennheiser Freeport Handheld Microphone will deliver over 10 hours of use. A common problem with budget radio mics is poor quality construction, but the Sennheiser Freeport is very different. The Sennheiser SK3 microphone itself feels sturdy and well built and for once, I wasn't scared it would break if I dropped it.
In conclusion, the Sennheiser Freeport handheld system is an excellent radio mic package at a great price. So whether you're a vocalist, karaoke DJ or bingo caller, you won't find a better value system than the Sennheiser Freeport!
