Orange have created a world first with the Thunderverb series of amplifiers, using new technology Orange have created an interactive amplifier designed specifically for guitar AND bass. Orange have managed to create an amplifier with a bass bandwidth that can operate as low as 30Hz without distorting. As you can imagine this means a truly earth shaking thick guitar tone can be achieved, and once coupled with 7 string guitars you can really get some awesomely heavy tones. Orange proudly presents the Orange Thunderverb 50 Amplifier Head ...

The Orange Thunderverb 50 features two channels, the A channel features Gain, Volume, Bass, Treble and Mid controls with which you can play with your tone, The B channel replaces the 3 Band EQ with a simple shape control which once turned clockwise cuts some of the Mids but boosts the bass and treble which produces a tone spectrum that has to be heard to be believed. The Orange Thunderverb 50 also features built in Reverb and a attenuator which allows you to achieve those high volume tones without blasting the roof off. An amplifier that works for both guitar and bass is an interesting concept, however I suspect that the Orange Thunderverb 50 Amp head will be favoured more by guitar players than bass players and particularly within the Metal genre. In today’s current musical climate higher and more saturated gain levels seem to be the most in-demand feature and Orange have really surpassed themselves with the tonal character of the Thunderverb 50. The low end tones from this amplifier produce monstrous output which adds lots of low end oomph especially if you're using seven string guitars.

Even the Reverb on the Orange Thunderverb 50 is valve driven with a valve returned reverb circuit - all of this will impress the tone hounds amongst you as will Orange's new Extended Tone Range (ETR) technology although I suspect that most people will judge this with their ears rather than with an oscilloscope. At the end of the day it may have a technical title and an even more complex explanation of how the technology works, but all most guitar players want to know is ... Does it sound good ...?

Well. I'm happy to report that indeed it does sound good - helped admirably by the extensive use of valves at almost every stage of the signal chain. The use of dual channels on the Orange Thunderverb 50 is also a welcome addition - the "shape" EQ control on the "B" channel is great for dialing-in your specific tonal sweetspot. Surprisingly the Accutronics 3 Spring Reverb has that classic analogue warmth to it and none of the muddyness that is normally associated with classic old-style Spring Reverb ...
