The Korg Kaoss series has been an inspiration to many musicians, DJs and producers. Hailing its ever intuitive interface the Korg Kaoss Pad allows the art of effects processing to not only become a swift and exciting experience but also an expressive performance gesticulation. Now we reach the third installment of the Kaoss Pad series and find the KP3 to be much more than its predecessors.
Whilst the onboard effects have increased to a massive 128 presets, the Kaoss Pad 3 introduces a new LED display touchface to control the processing of these incredible tools of sound manipulation which range from filters, EQs and delays to grain shifters, LFOS and many others.
But probably the most appealing addition to the Kaoss Pad 3 is the ability to sample. Furthermore, an exciting feature is the capability of the KP3 to actually re-sample the whole output of the device to effectively give an infinite number of sample banks.
Whilst the additional functions on the KP3 include an fx release level fader, an fx depth rotary knob and a hold feature so that the last effect played can continue without touching the pad, these features of the Kaoss Pad 3 also double up as midi controllers. The Korg Kaoss Pad 3 is undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable musical devices on the market and when it's teamed up with the kaossilator as its sampling source then it truly is a force to be reckoned with!
It is essentially a three in one device acting as a sampler, an effects processor and a midi controller. As well as a fader, a rotary knob and a few other buttons you can actually assign midi control numbers to the x and y axis of the touchpad including using the touch of the pad itself as a controller.
Sampling is easy with the Kaoss Pad 3 and the all new ability to resample the whole stereo output gives you the opportunity to create as many loops as you like!
The effects on the KP3 have certainly been updated including now some vocoders and some drum/synth sounds to control using the touchpad. In addition to this, the use of the hold button and the pad motion record functions can free up your hands as you see the last button pressed on the pad held or have the previous pattern made repeat itself.
There is a lot of potential for this device and I could fill the page with scenarios for its use but instead I'm going to recommmend that you come down and see for yourself the amazing power of the Kaoss Pad 3...
