Product Information

Ibanez MBM 1 Matt Bachand Signature Guitar

As the guitarist in metal band Shadows Fall, Matt Bachand needed a guitar that would allow him to obtain maximum tone but with the flexibility to be applied to all styles of music. He worked closely with Ibanez and the result is this, the Ibanez MBM-1 Matt Bachand signature guitar.

This guitar has been stripped down to the basics whilst still using the quality materials and construction techniques that ensure this guitar will withstand a punishing touring lifestyle. The MBM1 features an arched top mahogany body, 5-piece prestige neck and a bound rosewood fretboard with jumbo frets. Powerful rhythm and shimmering clean tones come courtesy of a pair of EMG humbucking pickups, whilst a fixed Gibralter Plus bridge and Gotoh precision machine heads keeps tuning solid and stable...ideal for when using heavier gauge strings and detuning.

Finished in an attractive Cosmo Black with custom Shadows Fall style design, the Ibanez Matt Bachaund is a very playable, versatile guitar, ideal for heavy metal and rock players.

Includes Ibanez Prestige hard case.

Matt Bachands signature guitar reminds me of some old guitars of yore, like the Les Paul Junior or Fenders Duo Sonic. I know Matt’s guitar doesn’t look anything like them but the principal is the same. A stripped down no nonsense guitar, that’s simplicity itself to operate, but made from the finest materials available by the best craftsmen.

This is an expensive guitar but feels every inch an instrument that’s been meticulously put together. The 5 piece Maple/Bubinga prestige neck is a work of art and the jumbo frets are finished to perfection making for a very comfortable playing experience. The heavily contoured Mahogany body nestles perfectly into your body placing the neck in the perfect playing position. Combine that with the simple control layout and you’re free to concentrate unhindered on what you’re playing.

EMG pickups are noted for their clarity and string separation and that’s precisely what we have here. With a good tube amp set clean the bridge unit is bright and punchy but never sounds harsh. The neck pickup is full and rich with exceptional clarity so that every note in the chord rings out, the string balance is spot on. With full on distortion the performance doesn’t falter. String balance and separation are maintained even when we de-tuned. The bottom end has real thump but note clarity is maintained. Questions were asked years ago of the Les Paul Junior because its basic stripped down look didn’t appear to justify the price. Odd now then that people will pay the equivalent of a new car to own one! Quality costs and this guitar has it in bundles...
