Product Information
One of the most significant changes to the Les Paul Goldtop within 2 years was the addition of the new Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece in 1956, this replaced the trapeze and wraparound tailpieces that had adorned earlier versions. The sustain from the guitar is beautifully complemented by the two P-90 Soapbar pickups which complete the aesthetic feel and look of the guitar too.
Only genuine P-90's can produce the the warmth and crispness on this guitar, making it understandable that Gibson had strategically placed them onto the body with a true players needs in mind. The mix between the non-weight relieved solid mahogany back that keeps a great resonance from the guitar and the carefully crafted maple top that creates that distinctive sustain that you would only find from a Les Paul.
The Goldtop may not be every guitarists cup of tea however there would be no doubt that Aesthetically this guitar offers beautifully crafted and considered masterpiece. The Goldtop models proved instantly popular with a growing legion of electric blues players, most notably B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, and Tiger Haynes, and today is one of the most revered and copied pieces of guitar hardware ever developed.
