Some people might argue that the generic hard disk type recorder such as the Boss BR-800 is now on its way out with little demand for this type of unit after the explosion of PC and Mac based music production software systems. However I would have to disagree largely due to the fact that the Boss BR-800 can run perfectly well on batteries ...
It's true that this type of unit is not as popular as it once was, however Boss have pulled a master stroke with the BR-800 as it has the ability to record virtually anywhere thanks to the 6 x AA battery power. The other plus are the high quality in-built condenser microphones which means that there's less ancillary equipment to take along to your location recording ...
Something else that is perhaps overlooked on the Boss BR-800 is the sheer range of features that this small footprint recorder has, for example there's the GT-10 guitar and bass effects, the VE-20 Vocal processing effects as well as the COSM based acoustic guitar modeling. If you bought each of these seperately it would equal the cost of this unit - and despite the effects you're also getting an 8-track recorder - so how's that for a bargain ... ?
The inclusion of the SD card memory facility means that any embryonic ideas can be transferred to your PC or Mac based music production software. At this price it's difficult to criticise the Boss BR-800, it's packed with features, is small and easily transportable and runs on batteries so can be taken anywhere ...
