Product Information
Akai MPC5000 Music Production Center
The MPC5000 is Akai's flagship music production workstation, equipped with all the features that have made the previous models so popular with hip hop and dance producers. This top of the line model features a host of new additions, making it the biggest and best MPC yet!
As with previous flagship MPC units, the 5000 features expressive pressure and velocity-sensitive performance pads, a comprehensive array of assignable controls, a powerful sequencer, advanced sampling capabilities and digital effects. The most notable advancement in the MPC technology is the addition of 8-track, direct to disk, multitrack recording and a built in, 20-voice, 3-oscillator analog synthesizer with an arpeggiator. The sequencing side has also been vastly improved...the MPC5000 boasts a high-resolution sequencing engine with 64-track continuous sampling. An upgraded effects engine now offers 4 FX buses and 2FX per bus.
The Akai MPC-5000 boasts impressive connectivity with balanced XLR/Jack combo inputs, a turntable input with preamp, 10 analogue outputs, 8 ADAT-optical outputs, stereo S/PDIF I/O, MIDI in and out, USB, a headphone socket and a CF card (supporting up to 2Gb)...all ensuring that the MPC5000 will integrate into any studio or live environment seamlessly. The backlit LCD screen on this machine is twice the size of the MPC1000's, displaying your waveforms and sequences with crystal clarity.

Reviews
The AKAI MPC5000 simply does everything that you would require out of a computer studio setup. It's a sequencer, it's a sampler, it's a synthesizer, it's a midi controller; the MPC5000 is absolutely one of the most advanced pieces of hardware I have seen on the market. There is an exceedingly weighty manual to get your head around to understand the full functionality of the AKAI MPC5000 but fortunately there is also a quick start guide included so you can get straight in there.
When I first started on the MPC5000 I thought I had encountered a problem with timing, but soon found out that the quantize function on the MPC5000 was set to a different value than what I required. Once I had changed that I had no problems with the MPC5000 whatsoever. Although a lot of professional hip-hop artists use the AKAI MPC5000 I found it just as effective on some more alternative experimental projects.
Using the audio inputs to capture guitar parts and vocal lines whilst mixing them with an external sample library, which I had stored onto the SD card that comes packaged with the MPC5000 - I was able to mix it with some new sounds I created on the internal synthesizer. The AKAI MPC5000 is really something that needs to be seen in the flesh rather than talked about as it is literally capable of so much! Come down to the Nevada Music Store for a demo on the MPC5000 now and try it out for yourself!
