Description

Yamaha’s Pacifica V112 is the latest of the Pacifica models and complies with the usual high standard of sound quality and playability that we have come to expect from Yamaha guitars.

The body has been crafted from Alder and adjoins to a Maple neck and Rosewood fret board housing 22 frets with dot inlaid fret markers. The shape of the Pacifica is not unlike the Fender S-type guitar but is instantly recognisable by the unusually large Yamaha headstock.

An interesting choice of pick-up configuration provides this instrument with an abundance of tonal variation, at the bridge position sits Yamaha’s new custom wound Alnico Hum-Bucker along with two new Alnico single coil pick-ups at the middle and neck positions. These are managed via volume and additional rotary tone control knobs and the pick-ups are selected via a blade type five way selector switch.

The newly designed bridge is very similar to those used on the Fender S-type instrument and is classed as a "Vintage style" tremolo unit with individual string saddles that can be height adjusted and spring tensioned screws for setting up the intonation of the notes at the twelfth fret. The Pacifica V112 is available in various colours, however the review model was in Yellow Natural Satin …

This is an outstanding instrument when considering the price, a few years back the previous model of Pacifica won several prestigious design and performance awards within the musical retail industry – most notably one for Product of the Year.

The V112 carries on in the same vein and is expertly constructed with great attention to detail. The neck is one of the nicest I can ever remember playing and is slim but substantial enough to provide room for five fingered left hand chords. The pick-ups are terrific and sound great at both clean and dirty amp settings, the single coils provide a clean, shimmering brightness and have good natural sustain. Meanwhile the hum-bucker at the bridge position will allow you to get low down and dirty with some searing power chords and tasteful solo tones …

To be honest, I’m quite astounded that a guitar can play and sound this good at a price bracket that is well under £200.For those disbelievers who doubt the authenticity of this review, I challenge you to head down to the Nevada Music Warehouse and try it for yourselves …
