Takamine EG512C Super Jumbo Acoustic bass guitar
Over recent years it has become fashionable within certain music genre for bass players to choose to play an acoustic bass instrument. This started with the popular range of “un-plugged” albums championed by MTV and since then many artists incorporate an “acoustic unplugged” section to their concerts.
Guitar and bass manufacturers were quick to spot the potential in this niche market and quickly began designing and releasing acoustic bass guitar models to meet this fashionable requirement.
This brings us quite appropriately on to the Takamine EG512C Jumbo Acoustic/Electric bass guitar which is essentially a cross between a Jumbo acoustic guitar and a bass guitar. The body shape is almost exactly like that of a jumbo acoustic guitar with a deep hollow body and single cut-away, the top is crafted from Spruce with Maple sides and rear whilst the long scale neck has a Rosewood fret board.
The chunky bridge is also made from Rosewood and is purposely substantially sized to handle the tension of the bass strings, Chrome machine heads are used to assist the tuning of the instrument.
The on-board electronics consist of the Takamine TK40 pre-amp and pick-up which also provides 3 band EQ and an in-built tuner. The review model was in High Gloss black with a cream trim around the outer edge of the body and a decorative Pearloid Rosette encircling the sound hole.
