Description

Gibson SG Special Faded Worn Cherry inc Gigbag

The Gibson SG was first unleashed on the public back in the 1960’s and at the time was popular with many rock guitar players including Eric Clapton, Pete Townsend and George Harrison.

The SG Special Faded has a slim line double cut-away Mahogany body and set-neck and uses a rosewood fret board with inlaid dot position markers, the bridge is the standard Gibson tune-o-matic model complete with stop bar tailpiece both of which are chrome plated.

The pick-ups are open coil series 490’s with a 490R at the neck position and a 490T located by the bridge. Additional electronics are a single tone and volume control along with a 3 way pick-up selector switch adjacent.

The Gibson SG is easily identifiable by the now iconic plastic batwing scratch plate that the pick-ups are set into, the headstock has 2 sets of 3 Kluson machine heads – one on each side, along with a gold embossed Gibson logo,

The finish on the guitar has been artificially faded and aged to emulate several years of loving use whilst the guitar comes complete with a padded Gibson gig-bag.

The SG was originally rejected by Les Paul back in the early 1960's - he was unhappy with the design and therefore refused to endorse this particular model, just goes to show that occasionally even guitar greats get things wrong ...

The SG was an instant hit, due to its slender light weigh body, double cut-away design and slim tapered neck, in the early to mid 1970's it was probably one of the most popular Gibson models and the twin neck version was also a must-have for many serious guitar players ...

Playing it again after all these years, I can honestly say that the SG has lost none of its appeal, the small body and slender neck are still a delight to play and the hum-buckers certainly pack some punch.

For many years the SG appealed mainly to the type of musician who's musically formative years were in the late 60's and early 70's.However, new Gibson and Epiphone models that have been modernised and given a contemporary make-over mean that the SG now appeals to a whole new generation of young guitar players ... Try the Gibson SG Special at the Nevada Music Warehouse ... I doubt you'll be dissapointed ...
