Description

Fender American Precision Bass Left Handed in Black - Rosewood

Fender were directly responsible for inventing the electric bass guitar back in the 1950's, as bassists of the era were tired of being drowned out by loud horn sections in dance bands of the era. Introduced in 1951, the Fender Precision Bass helped to change the face of popular music as we know it today.

The left-handed version of the new American Standard Precision bass featured here, sports a new high-mass vintage bridge, a thinner finish of undercoat that lets the body breathe and improves resonance, and new and improved Fender machine heads that keep the classic look but are 30 percent lighter.

Cosmetically, a richer and deeper neck tint provides a more elegant appearance, whilst an elegant glossed Rosewood fret board and satin back enhances the playability of this instrument. Fender also equip each of their new Precision Bass models with an exclusive SKB molded case.

To review this bass I had to rely on the trusted opinion of my old mate "Lefty" - me being right handed an' all that. As usual he turned up almost an hour late with some excuse about  having to wait for his jeans to dry ...and immediately headed for the fridge to see what he could pillfer ... when I reminded him that he'd actually come to review the new left handed Fender Precision bass he responded by belching rather loudly and headed off in the general direction of the bass ...

After much cajoling and two pots of strong coffee we actually got down to the business in hand and connected the Precision bass to a Trace Elliott amp. My first impressions were that the sound had a good balance between deep bass tones and a snappy top end that provided plenty of punch. Yet despite this once Lefty started to play finger style the familiar classic low mid smoothness was evident, and captured the sound that's typical of the Precision range ...

In between wolfing down a large 3 pack of Jaffa cakes, Lefty remarked positively on the glossy fret board and satin finish on the back of the neck as he spat lumps of chocolate and sponge in my direction. Although he infuriates me enough to punch him at times ... there's no getting away from the fact that Lefty really can play a bit and I sat mesmerised as his fingers slapped, popped, and twanged at the Precision producing a range of great tones, harmonics and riffs that reminded me why I put up with his ingratiating antics ...

Finally, I asked him for his unabashed opinion of the new Fender Precision bass ... although I cannot possibly repeat his actual words as I'd probably get arrested for foul and abusive language, let me say that they were meant to be complimentary and had I been there to purchase the Fender Precision I would immediately have reached for my credit card based on the performance and sound that I had witnessed .... Outstanding ..... then the git had the audacity to ask me to lend him the money for a taxi home .... honestly ... some people ...
