As part of their early learning process, many parents will buy small children CDs or tapes containing stories, children's nursery rhymes or just songs to familiarise themselves with and sing along to. This helps to enhance various social and human skills.

Memory recall - remembering the tune and lyrics of the song or rhyme

Pattern recognition - learning verses and choruses and understanding the differential between the various "parts" of a song

Group involvement - singing in unison along with other children or parents

The advantage that a tape or CD may have for a small child is that it is a fixed or static process. In other words the tape or CD always plays exactly the same song in exactly the same order with exactly the same melody and lyric.

This creates a comfort factor for the child as they learn to recognise what comes next in the sequence of events and brings structure and routine to the learning experience whilst educating them in the art of memory recall.
