At the top end of the new Marshall MB bass amp range you’ll find the Marshall MB4210 bass amplifier combo packing a massive 300 watts of power into 4 Ohms and featuring two 10” speakers and a high frequency (HF) horn. As with all of the other Marshall MB models this bass combo has two channels each of which are voiced (and therefore described) quite differently.

Channel one is called the “Classic” channel and once you plug-in it’s easy to see why … it has been created using the warm valve technology that Marshall is so famous for. There is of course the deep, rich bottom end that we have come to associate with Marshall bass amps but it is as always typically characterised by the soft rounded high mids and top end that gives the valve sound its softness and warmth. To authenticate the sound Marshall have kept the 3 band EQ circuitry passive and included the ECC83 valve pre-amp along with a boost switch and a mid-voice three position control.

By contrast the “Modern” channel has a far edgier sound with a harder and sharper top end to cut through and energise the music. It still packs a whole lot of bottom end punch but is balanced by the slightly metallic top end. The EQ section includes a Parametric seep-able EQ and a switch-able compressor with level control.

The additional feature on thie Marshall MB4210 model and also on the MB4410 is the ability to mix the two channels together and balance their individual volumes against each other. This facility is sadly only available on the models at the top of the range but is an extra consideration when making the buying decision as it adds a whole extra tone dimension.

The Marshall MB4210 also has an in-built Limiter, an FX loop, Speakon and Jack extension sockets for adding further cabinets, XLR line outs and the aforementioned “Blend” control.

The Marshall MB4210 150 Watt Bass combo weighs in at 33 kilograms and the dimensions are 630 x 535 x 280 (mm).

The Marshall 4210 300 Watt Bass combo makes a seriously good noise, all components and build quality are up to Marshall’s usual high standards and the choice of the classic or modern bass sounds gives massive scope for tonal variance – particularly when you then consider that the individual channels can be mixed together.

It’s also packed with high quality additional features such as the Compressor and Limiter and the ability to expand your sound by adding further cabinets. The sound on the Classic channel typifies what we have come to expect from Marshall’s own valve technology range of amplifiers, depth and clarity coupled with soft high mids to give warmth in the upper frequency range. By contrast the Modern channel has a harder top end to give a slight metallic edge to the tones here and by doing so creates an altogether more aggressive approach. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that either as it typically energises the music whilst retaining the bottom end punch …

Then of course if you add the ability to blend the two channels together on the MB4210 it subsequently opens up a whole new dimension of tonal variance and makes for some great sounds …Should you wish to expand your rig the Marshall MB4210 will kick out up to 450 watts into 2 Ohms and you can add additional cabinets via the Speakon or jack inputs. So I guess there’s nothing more to say other than a massive thumbs up to Marshall who look to have a real success story on their hands with the Marshall MB range.
