Genz Benz Shuttle STL3.0-10T 300w 1x10" Bass Combo
In today’s consumer age it seems everything is getting smaller. Mobile phones with keys you need to press with a pen, cars you can park in your porch and over the last few years, bass amps too it seems. Perhaps the only thing getting larger is my overdraft!
Weighing in at a little over 8 kgs this particular featherweight contender, the Shuttle 3.0 10T packs quite a few punches. Like the fact that the amp is actually removable from the cabinet for those gigs where you don’t have to take a cab. With the head itself being less than 2 kgs that’s an extremely light gig. Pack it your gig bag and walk to the gig (or take a bus if you’re lazy like me!).
At 175 watts using just the cab the Shuttle 3.0 10T as is, you’d think that was enough, but paired with another 8 ohm cab, you can be pumping out 300 watts. Think about it, that’s 21 watts per kilo for the combo. Compare that the venerable Ampeg SVT and an 8x10 which works out at just under 3 watts per kilo, I think I know what I’d rather have!
As if fitting a four band EQ and three “Signal Shape” switches was going to be tight on such a small amp, Genz-Benz have managed to include on the back of the amp a DI out (with ground lift, pre/post eq and line/mic level switches), effects loop, two Speakon speaker outs and possibly the greatest unknown gem, a headphone out. All the main features can also be managed via an optional footswitch which has its MIDI style connection on the back too.
Inside is an ultra quiet fan, and a soft limiting circuit to prevent large spikes of volume hitting the cab.
Reviews
Here's what every bass player has been wishing for ... a lightweight bass combo amp with great features ... Jim has fixed it for you bassmeisters ... Genz Benz have been a long established name in the USA but are relatively new to these shores. I managed a peek at their products at the 2009 Winter NAMM show in Los Angeles ....
The Genz Benz 1 x 10" Shuttle Bass Combo is actually a seperate bass head and cabinet, the clever part is that on top of the cabinet is a 1.5U rack slot that the seperate bass head slides into - immediately turning the Shuttle into a combo amp. Quite frankly I was stunned to hear such a small, lightweight unit ( I could easily lift the Shuttle to waist height with one hand and little effort) that packs such depth and clear warm bass tone ...
Not only that, but this pint-sized powerhouse can kick out a staggering 300 watts when wired into 4 Ohms and weighs in at a measly 9 Kilos ... The Valve Pre-amp helps to provide warmth to the overall sound whilst the active EQ and Parametric mids enable the user to dial-in thier favourite bass sweetspot ... All in all this is a great product that sounds excellent and won't give you a hernia whilst transporting it ... happy days are here again ! See the Genz Benz range now at the Nevada Music Warehouse ...
