Ashdown EB12-180 Bass Combo Amplifier
Ashdown?s EB 12-180 Bass Combo is a compact yet powerful amplifier solution suitable for small to medium venues with a power rating of 180 watts into 4 Ohms. The EB 12-180 utilises a 12? Blueline bass driver along with a fan-cooled fast-transient power stage, and a bass preamplifier with inputs for both active and passive instruments.
The front control panel includes 5 rotary EQ pots and an illuminated VU meter. To further assist the tonal variance Ashdown have included both bright and deep switches which adjust the frequencies accordingly and this particular model also incorporates Ashdown?s renowned switch-able sub-harmonic generator which handles sub harmonic bass frequencies
Other handy additions are send and return effects channels and a tuner/line output, there?s also a Direct Out XLR interface for direct connection to a PA/Mixer or recording console. At the rear lies the jack inputs with an extra jack interface should you wish to add additional speaker cabs for playing bigger venues.
The cab chassis is constructed from plywood and has been precision tuned to maximise low frequency response, the outside of the chassis is covered in a scuff-resistant industrial black carpet material. Each of the corners has protective high-impact corner covers whilst the speaker is protected by a metal kick-proof grill. A sturdy, heavy-duty handle can be found on the upper surface of the combo for carrying and transporting the EB 12-180 and this combo weighs in at 27kg with dimensions of 501 x 474 x 300 mm.
Reviews
Ashdown’s Blueline 12” speaker seemed to handle lots of tonal variances well and stayed clean, solid and punchy throughout. I found the deep and bright switches a bit extreme when used with the EQ, but there’s undoubtedly someone out there who will find them useful particularly in difficult acoustic environments.
Having an effects send and return is a handy addition as is the tuner/line output whilst the sub harmonic generator really rattles the chest cavity when fully deployed. All said this is an excellent, compact bass combo and is not too heavy at 16.5 Kilos, definitely one to check out ….
