Hofner HCT5007 Verythin Bass Guitar Short Scale - Sunburst
There aren't many semi-solid basses on the market today which both look credible and have contemporary playability from the latest and best choice of components and technology. This limited run Hofner HCT5007 Verythin semi-solid bass will get any retro fan drooling with desire. Modelled after the fabulous Hofner Verythin guitar series and styled like the famous Violin and Club basses, the overall result is the perfect 60's semi bass. The Beatles first bass player- Stu Sutcliff would have been right at home here....
The Hofner Verythin HCT5007 features a 30" scale length neck which is a standard 43 mm width at the nut which will feels familiar like any normal bass. It has 22 frets including a period correct zero fret and a vintage style arch top bridge held in place with a handy pin so it won't fall off when you're changing strings. Two Hofner styled pickups each have a volume and tone control and sound suitably rotund and woody vintage whilst the pearloid scratch plate sets it all off perfectly.
Individual vintage style machine heads are nice and small and do the job perfectly.... The vintage sunburst colour (which is so important to get correct) is spot on, the flame top and back looks stunning and the overall feel and build quality is top notch. It's also worth noting it's a much stronger, less fragile instrument than the original Hofner's which although were great, were very light and felt rather flimsy to those used to getting stuck in on a solid body bass. The design of this particular model has recently changed and it is now supplied without the usual floating scratchplate ...
Although the Hofner Verythin HCT5007 is a shorter scale bass, it doesn't feel at all small due to the larger body and the strap balance is great. This is a very cool styled semi-solid bass with absolutely the right credentials for the fussiest 60's swinger, and also spot on for any modern indie bass player too. Snap this superb semi-acoustic bass up while it's available, and I don't often say this ...but - I bought one !! Had to have it !! Been waiting ages for something like this!!
