Description

Roland PM30 200 Watt Personal Near-Field Monitoring System

The PM30 is a high quality monitoring system designed by Roland specifically for monitoring their range of V-Drums, it consists of a single floor mounted angled front PA style foldback monitor with an on-board 200 watt amp. Additionally there are two satellite 4" speakers that can either be attached to the frame of the drum stand or alternatively to the cross bar on the top of the monitor ...

The on-board amplifier provides 200 watts of power and also has 3 EQ parameters to be able to adjust and modify the sound, the floor mounted unit contains a 12" sub-woofer along with a tweeter to handle the high frequency range. The speakers have been voiced specifically for the dynamic range of the V-Drums and the amplification configuration is such that the satellite speakers allow the drums to be heard in true stereo with the relevant stereo image panning.

The floor unit construction has carrying handles on the sides and top along with castors at each corner for easy positioning and transportability. The speakers within the floor monitor can be switched from Sub-woofer mode to full range mode for a more dynamic sound response, it's also possible to control the volume of the speakers from the main headphone level control on the TD12's central unit providing the optional link cables are connected.

There are two important elements to the PM30, firstly its sound quality which is outstanding and secondly its high volume levels - which in truth should be enough for almost any environment.

The sound is presented in true stereo with each of the drums panned accross the stereo sound field as you would hear them in a natural live environment. The ability to hear the drums clearly and at an appropriate volume is a massive advantage for any drummer, although in an ideal world he will also need to hear the other memebers of the band and vice-versa.

The Roland PM30 produces high quality audio reproduction with plenty of guts thanks to the Sub-Woofer and satellite speakers, it also does this at a power rating that is set to a realistic wattage for a live gig in an average sized venue. The user can add EQ and choose to listen using the sub-woofer and satellite speakers or with the floor monitor set to "full range" frequencies. It also has a rugged and robust build quality that should withstand the rigours of the road.

This system isn't cheap, but it does re-produce the V-Drum sounds very well and is a compact, high quality and robust sound solution ...
