Description

Over the years Peavey have built a credible reputation as the manufacturer of high quality PA speakers, amplifiers and mixers. One of their most popular models is the XR800F 200 watt stereo mixer amplifier which includes Peavey’s unique Feedback Locating System.

The mixer amp has 9 channels in total configured as 6 microphone channels, 2 stereo input channels and a single Tape Input channel. There’s a lot of features packed into this mixer amp, firstly each channel has 3 band EQ and 8 low-noise, low impedance preamps. Aside from this there’s Precision 60 mm channel and master faders, Channel stereo pan controls, a Monitor send and EFX send on each channel (excluding the Tape input channel) and 3 stereo line inputs.

Other features include 16-bit audio/32-bit internal precision, DSP stereo reverb/effects with 2 parameter controls, Two 9-band graphic EQs with patented FLS (Feedback Locating System), Dual seven-segment master level meters and DDT (Distortion Detection Technique).

A particularly useful option is the ability to route one side of the 200 watt amplifier to the foldback system whilst utilising the remaining 200 watts for the main PA, giving the performers the best of both worlds.

In our view the Peavey XR800F is one of the most versatile mixer amps around. It has enough channels and output power for most of the small gig venues around with 9 input channels and 200 watts output per channel it's a great piece of kit and there is nothing around that equals it.

This mixer amp has been extremely well designed with some nice touches that include the facility to play an external sound source through the PA (iPod, MP3 Player, Tape deck) to allow background music whilst the band are on a break.

The FLS should also mean that you can get your mic levels nice and high and the graphic EQ will help to resolve sound problems for those occasions where you’re playing ballroom type venues. Peavey have also thrown in a series of Digital effects to sweeten the vocal sounds and each channel has its own monitor and effects send to personalise your on stage monitor level and vocal effect.

For a lot less than £400 I can’t help think that this amp is an absolute bargain, it’s got the Peavey quality and dependability and Peavey are so confident of their product that they provide a 5 year warranty on it. The XR800F is packed full of features that you would normally expect to find on much more expensive mixer amps, so if your band is looking for a new PA amp – check out the XR800F …
