Condenser Mics

Condenser microphones are available as both cheap and cheerful models at the entry level market point as well as expensive hi-fidelity instruments at the professional end. They are renowned for producing a hi-fi quality audio signal and because of this are the preferred type of microphones for recording studios and broadcast companies.

In most cases they require an additional power source either directly from the microphone itself such as Phantom Power or from an internal battery. Some Condenser microphones have two diaphragms. The advantage of this is that the signals from each of the individual diaphragms can be connected to create a diverse range of Polar patterns so that the microphone can effectively be reconfigured to suit specific usage.
