There’s a whole stack of electronic tuners to choose from at your local music store – everything from a key fob tuner to tuners that are built into effects units. The Ibanez LU10 is a chromatic table top type tuner with a built-in condenser microphone for tuning acoustic instruments.
Once the unit is switched on and set to the correct mode (guitar or bass) and assuming your instrument is connected to the unit via a jack cable, it will automatically detect the note/string being played and give and indication of how accurate the tuning is.
It does this by displaying whether the note is sharp or flat via an easy to read LED curved scale of lights where the middle point reads perfect tuning. To the left of the middle point the note is flat and likewise to the right it is sharp. If the jack cable is not connected but the unit is switched on the LU10 assumes that you wish to tune an acoustic instrument and the condenser microphone is activated.
By connecting the tuner to the optional AC adapter and connecting the signal output to your stage rig it’s possible to keep this tuner permanently “on-line” which is handy for checking tuning in between songs.
