The term "Lifestyle Pianos" was christened by keyboard manufacturer Roland several years ago after releasing a style of digital electronic piano suitable for the home environment. The design of piano created by Roland was that of a sleek, contemporary and minimalist instrument using fashionable laminated woods in order to be aesthetically pleasing on the eye and be judged as an attractive item of furniture as well as a leisure instrument.
The advantage of the digital electronic piano over a traditional acoustic piano is first and foremost that the volume from the onboard speakers can be adjusted to a comfortable level. Secondly, in most cases a headphone input can allow the instrument to be played without disturbing the rest of the household. Digital lifestyle pianos also tend to have a more compact footprint and are generally lighter to carry or move around as the sounds are created electronically and therefore they do not contain mechanical workings in contrast to acoustic pianos.
