Description

Korg NanoKey Slim-Line USB Keyboard

If you're a musician who is constantly on the move, or an owner of a project studio with limited space, you'll undoubtedly welcome the introduction of the Korg Nano series of MIDI controllers.

The Korg NanoKey is a slimline MIDI controller, consisting of a keyboard spanning two octaves and six other buttons used to control sounds; octave down & up, pitch down & up, modulation and Control Change mode.

Although the keys were created in the style of a standard laptop push button, they are actually velocity sensitive. The velocity curve can also be altered using the free downloadable Kontrol Editor Software, giving a choice of four different velocity curves. The NanoKey comes with two coupons inside the box, the first gives you an authorisation code for Korg's M1 LE software synthesizer and the second entitles you to money off of Ableton Live Software.

The Nanokey is an extremely affordable and portable way to get hands-on with your software instruments... come and check it out down at the Nevada Music Warehouse!!

Let's be honest here, this controller wasn't designed to be a fully-fledged keyboard, and so upon first sight the keys appear to be somewhat lacking in quality. However, this isn't entirely accurate - the keyboard was designed to sit comfortably with a laptop, and in doing so Korg have created the keys using the texture and feel of a laptop keyboard, whilst still employing the velocity sensitive attribute that a keyboard requires.

The NanoKey also has a Control Change mode whereby you can assign each note of the keyboard to send a controller message either by using a key to toggle an effect on or off or using a key to momentarily trigger the effect whilst the note is held. The modulation key is another good feature to have as you can actually use it as an aftertouch function by editing the depth and Control change number of its panel in the Kontrol Editor Software.

The Korg Nanokey has to be one of the cheapest controllers on the market, and for what it can do, the NanoKey is definitely worth the money!
