On the surface, Roland’s HP204 piano looks very similar to the model below it in the range, the HP203…but it’s the subtle differences that make the biggest differences. This piano features Roland’s newly designed “PHA Alpha II” keyboard. This 88 note piano offers you the authentic feel of an acoustic grand, with a weightier touch at the lower end and a lighter touch in the higher registers, what’s known as a progressive hammer action.

As with the HP203, it also features the “escapement” mechanism in the keyboard. This mechanism simulates the action found in an acoustic piano which allows a player to play fast, repeated notes, resulting in an even more realistic feel. Just like an acoustic piano, 3 foot pedals feature on the HP204. There’s a soft pedal, a sostenuto pedal (allowing the user to sustain a chord whilst playing unsustained notes over the top) and a graded damper pedal which allows control over sustain depending on how much the pedal is depressed.

The HP204’s cabinet is larger than the HP203 which improves tonal qualities as the speakers have a larger area in which to resonate. A smooth sliding key cover protects the keyboard and can be set to half way, covering up the knobs and buttons…a simple, but very aesthetically pleasing touch.  Best of all, because it’s a digital piano you’ll never need to get it retuned! The main difference between the HP204 and the HP203 however is in it’s amplification system…

Upgraded Sound

The tonal facilities in the HP204 are the same as in the HP203. A true multi-sampled Steinway gives an excellent grand piano sound and a full general MIDI sound set including 8 drum sets and a sound FX set is also present.  However, the HP204 boasts a vastly improved Omni-directional amplification system.

Designed to be placed against a wall, this system gives the illusion that the sound is coming from all around, just like an acoustic grand piano…you really have to hear it to believe it. As well as standard MIDI connections for computer connectivity, the HP204 allows for an optional CD player (any standard computer USB drive) or memory stick to be connected via it’s USB port. This allows you to play along with your favorite CD’s and MIDI files…you can even transpose them.

Great Teaching Facilities
Along with the usual features you’d expect to find on a digital piano such as a metronome and performance recorder, the HP204 also has a twin piano mode. This mode allows you to split the piano right down the middle, effectively giving you 2 half size keyboards covering the same octaves.

Not only does it split the keyboard, it also splits the pedals giving each section a separate damper pedal. This allows teachers and duet partners to sit next to each other, individually playing the same notes…but on different places on the same piano! It even has 2 headphone sockets for silent duets and practice.

Why not use Roland's Gold or Silver delivery service ... ?*

Roland UK can offer a Gold or Silver delivery service which means that heavy items such as home pianos can be personally delivered directly to your home address from Roland's Warehouse - this service is known as the Silver Service and costs £75.00 in addition to the cost of the piano.

The Gold Service entails both personal delivery and the un-boxing and setting up of the keyboard in your home, in addition all packaging is removed afterwards. The cost of the Gold service is £100.00 on top of the cost of the piano ...

*These services are available for mainland UK only

There may only be small differences between the HP204 and the HP203, but boy, do they make a difference! As with all of Roland’s digital pianos, the feel of the keyboard is fantastic and the features are both high quality and very useful…but it’s the upgraded speaker system that really sets this piano apart. Close your eyes and you’ll find it hard to tell the difference between this and a real acoustic piano.
