Description

Takamine 345SC 12 string Electro-Acoustic guitar

This Takamine 12 string electro-acoustic guitar utilises a Dreadnought body shape with a solid spruce top and mahogany sides and rear and a single cut away – which is quite unusual for a 12 string model. The neck is also mahogany with a rosewood fret-board and 20 medium frets with Abalone dot position markers.

The Takamine branded tuners are sealed gold plated units and the EG345SC has an elongated headstock to allow for all twelve strings. At the opposite end of the instrument the bridge is made from rosewood with an Abalone rosette encircling the sound hole adjacent to a black plastic scratch plate.

The on-board electronics feature the Takamine TP4T pre-amp and pick up with adjustable 3 band EQ and an in-built guitar tuner and master volume control.

The EG345SC is one of Takamine’s best selling 12 string electro-acoustic guitars, both acoustically and amplified this instrument sounds full and rich with emphasis on the bottom and high end frequencies. The spruce top gives bright resonant sounds whilst the mahogany sides and back add natural sustain.

The neck is slightly wider than on most 6 strings – as you’d expect, however it doesn’t feel too chunky and therefore will allow deft chord changes at high tempo. The TP4T pre-amp adds the usual active frequency boost and cut along with a handy on-board tuner which is a godsend when trying to tune a 12 string acoustic guitar.

The 12 string guitar is predominantly a rhythmical instrument and rarely used for finger style playing, it is commonly used to fill out a specific frequency range and provide a certain rhythmical element to live performance or recording environments.

In order to be deemed successful the guitar needs to meet certain criteria which are a) sound and b) play-ability, happily the EG345SC scores high on both accounts.

If you’re shopping around for a good 12 string electro-acoustic, take my advice and add this to your list.
