Description

Takamine EG523SC 12 string Electro-Acoustic

This is the big brother of the 6 string EG523SC model and utilises many of the exact same materials in its construction. The top is once again made from solid spruce and the sides and rear are flamed maple just as they are on the 6 string version.

The headstock is obviously much larger on the 12 string model to compensate for the additional strings and machine heads, and likewise the neck is wider –  due to the additional 6 strings. However the machine heads are of the exact same type as on the 6 string model – namely die-cast chrome plated sealed units.

The neck is constructed from Mahogany with a Rosewood fret board that includes 20 frets, and the design retains the Mother of Pearl and Abalone block inlay. The surface has a decorative Abalone Rosette encircling the sound hole whilst the scratch plate is tortoise shell. A black and white line trim edges the body of the instrument to complete the decorative surface and the guitar is available in Natural or Black high gloss finish.

The TK-40 Pre-amp and pick-up has 3 band EQ and a built-in guitar tuner and is situated on the side of the guitar for easy access.

Another beautiful guitar from the guys at Takamine, this 12 string model sounds full and bright to the ear and looks fantastic in flamed maple and spruce.

Although the neck is wider, it does not feel cumbersome and open chords have a lovely resonant sustain to them whilst the acoustic volume of this instrument is LOUD.

The on-board guitar tuner will be a handy addition when trying to tune all 12 strings and the pre-amp EQ helps to shape the amplified sound to re-create the acoustic qualities of the instrument.

When amplified the guitar retains its full and resonant tones whilst the EQ helps to boost the bottom end and deliver low frequency oomph …

There is little to criticise about this guitar suffice to say that it is by no means a budget or entry level model and will set you back a penny or two, however you will be getting a beautiful, lovingly crafted instrument that sounds fantastic and will undoubtedly improve even more over time …
