Description

Launched at the Winter NAMM trade show in January 2008, Ibanez  presents the Montage, offering 5 different sound options from full acoustic to straight electric and several stations in between. The Montage is part rock guitar and part acoustic guitar both with in-built effects and adjustable on-board gain, reverb, chorus and a tuner. The Montage is both an attractive electro-acoustic and one of the most versatile and useful Ibanez guitars available.

It has innovative on-board electronic features that include 2 acoustic sounds, 2 electric sounds as well as mix options. The effects are reverb, chorus, distortion, and phase reversal as well as a dual notch filter and tuner. Its prinicipal feature is the inclusion of two pick-ups, firstly the B-Band UST pickup (acoustic) and secondly the AP-9 magnetic pickup (electric).

Each pick up gives the instrument a particular characteristic so that acoustic sections and overdriven sections can be played without having to swap guitars - you merely need to switch between the Piezo or Magnetic pick-up for the appropriate sound required. The electric and acoustic sounds can be mixed together and the effects can be added to each pick-up, it also sports a simple neck tilt mechanism for no-hassle action adjustment along with the Ibanez proprietary detachable neck with comfortable grip and shape.

The Ibanez MSC650 is one of the fast emerging hybrid instruments from various guitar manufacturers, part electric guitar and part acoustic its role allows you to play both acoustic and electric parts within a song without having to change instruments.

By turning the gain control all the way up on the Magnetic pick-up you are provided with overdriven distortion ala your favourite rock guitar, however by reducing the gain to a minimum and switching to the Piezo pick-up you can have a natural sweet sounding acoustic which can be further enhanced by adding chorus and reverb at the dial of a knob ...

The guitar has two jack outputs so that the acoustic pick-up can be connected to the PA system whilst the Magnetic pick-up can be routed to a guitar amplifier to enhance the distortion or "electric" sound. There's also a tuner and a notch filter to help reduce feedback and the guitar has a lovely Ebony fret board and bridge.

This particular Ibanez guitar plays very well and electric players will love the slim tapered neck and soft Viennese single cut-away. The acoustic sound is excellent when amplified and the electric noise is pretty good too, check out this guitar at the Nevada Music Warehouse or watch to the demo here.
